Highlights from May 2024 budget speech

Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Gwede Mantashe, with deputy minister Judith Nemadzinga-Tshabalala present, tabled his 2024/5 Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) national budget confirming at the same time that this department is being split into two departments namely, Mineral and Petroleum Resources and Electricity and Energy. This arrangement has a similarity to what it was before previous president Jacob Zuma lumped the two together, an idea that never worked and for which bundling and unbundling costs have amounted to millions.
